The reason we love Dumfries and Galloway is because there is so much to do. We have a complicated mix of requirements from mountain bikes to quiet mornings, country walks to an afternoon in the cinema and childrens' playgrounds to and hour or so on the Wii. Whatever the time of year and whatever the weather you will always find something to keep you busy and entertained. Below are a few links of our favourite activities to give you some inspiration. Mountain Biking Dumfries & Galloway is famous for its commitment to cycling and has made huge investments to the sport. Whether you want trails for the family or adrenalin fuelled downhill then there is something for all. The 7Stanes offers a great variety of trails and all are within reach of Burnbank. Five of these famous sites are within 50 minutes drive, Mabie is only 15 minutes away and you can even cycle the few miles to Dalbeattie from the front door. http://www.visitdumfriesandgalloway.co.uk/cycling/ Golf Our cottage makes the perfect from which to explore the golf courses that the area has to offer. There are over 30 golf courses within the region and a great variety to choose from. There is a driving range 10 minutes drive away and eight 18 hole courses and five 9 hole courses all within 30 minutes drive. http://www.visitdumfriesandgalloway.co.uk/golf/ Walking The beauty of Dumfries & Galloway is often best seen on foot and there are walks to suit everyone. We love to spend time walking and whether you have children who would love to see the kites on the Red Kite Trail, explore the fossils on local beaches or head for the higher points in the Galloway Hills you can do it all from Burnbank Cottage. We have plenty of walking guides and maps available at the cottage so you can plan in comfort and then get out and explore. There are castles to explore, ice-cream theme parks as well as wildlife parks. Have a look at the links below to see the possibilities on offer. Drumlanrig Castle and Country Park This place is great for the family. It has country walks, a tea room, a big adventure playground as well as mountain bike trails and landrover rides for the grown-ups. And there is the castle itself for those who prefer something more sedate.
